We've lived in all three places, and are presently out in the country. A river runs through our property, and we have all sorts of wild animals here - deer, turkey, coyotes, bobcats, eagles, all sorts of migrating birds. We love it.
There is a town 20 miles away from which we can get most things we have to buy. But about every other week, we drive to a larger city some 100 miles away for the theatre, a concert, a fine meal out, etc and often stay overnight. We enjoy that too.
Of the three, I think suburban living is the most over-rated. If you want a great place to raise kids or to be one with nature, move to the country. If you want to be in the urban swim constantly, move into the city proper. (This is from a guy who has lived in the nice suburbs of some of the country's largest cities.)
