I am catholic, and the one thing you need to know is by going there you are trying to save someone that dose not want to be saved, you are inter fearing with a culture that is none of your business, and you would be spreading, and pushing your religion on those that I believe you do not have a right to do, I am one of many many catholics who disagree with missionary work, we also believe it is the missionaries that create most of the 3rd world problems today because of the interference they create over there, we say clean up your own back yard before you try and clean up someone Else's.

I'm just seconding Jack. Missionary work is abhorrent. Stop disrupting other people's cultures and destroying their ways of life. Sometimes the changes these things create have terrible systemic effects. Christian philosophy can be terribly disruptive to the ways people have learned to live with their society and their locality. By changing the way they live, you might make their lives and their country so much worse. Why "save their souls" by destroying their lives? If you're going to go, do something better. Fight disease or poverty WITHOUT conversion. Missionary work is worse than useless.

first become a Charismatic Catholic like I did from first a Jewish person, or you will be missing the inner joy of personal salvation, and message to change hearts not just poverty. they had me pray, "Jesus forgive my sins come into my heart, and be my friend, help me, amen"

and they take everything from the Catholic Bible- Revelation 3:19&20 Jesus says "I love you and ask you to repent from your sins, and ask me in to your heart door, Behold I stand at your heart's door and knock to come in, and will sup/fellowship with you and you with me."

next know where and learn some of the language if your interested in Vietnam -it is a golden opportunity-I have been sharing the bible there-but you can only stay 6 months at a time-and agent orange victims are plentiful and much poverty to be helped but most of all to give them hope in the gospel of personal salvation, now Jesus is my best friend, not just part of a religion.

most of the people there are Buddhists and I have them praying and finding Jesus-they are for the most part very open.

That most of the things you take for granted will no longer be there. The heat is overpowering until you acclimatize. That the inhabitants will be trusting and devoted. That you should experience the happiest time of your life.

Learn the language, and customs of the country to which you are going. Learn the history of the country and its relationship to your country. Learn that people in third world countries are not stupid, or backward.

Why you should wish to waste your time on such an endeavor. Is it really worth spending some of your precious time to spread a thesis that is provably useless?

What you should know is that churches have no business interfering in other cultures. Be sensible and stay at home.
