they get away with drug possession, having an illegal weapon, even assault among other illegal activities just because they have cameras pointing at them sometimes, if it was any other "regular" person they would be sent to prison for a few months to a year or face some other harsh punishment.

I wonder the same thing. it's just sad to see a legal system above anything else give celebrities special treatment. Paris should of been to jail for awhile for DUI twice and driving without a license but she's still walking around.

Money buys lawyers, though it is not always the case. I think they get away with it because people who should punish them believe them to be somewhat better than everyone else and so they let them go easy. You know.... the same happens with looks. A good looking person will always be let go more easily out of trouble than your average looker. It's a psychological thing: people acknowledge some things as superior: looks, fortune, fame...
But, as I said, it's not always the case: where I'm from (Romania) cops have gone really bad: they fine everyone for breaking traffic rules (even an important politician lost his license), they put you in jail if they catch you racing, having a weapon (and mind you, in Romania only the cops and the military can carry weapons - so if you're neither then you'd better not have a firearm), using fake money.... For a while I thought they really didn't do their job, but for some time they keep arresting people all the time - one would think we'd be a crime-free country in a couple of years.... ;) LOL

Even bad press is good press, and you don't have to be all that rich and famous to take advantage of this. Real professional musicians are generally aware that they have a job to do and illegal anything could very well cause them a problem, so most tend to keep it clean because it's their job and income at stake. Some times a few "celebrities" do things that are or seem to be the wrong choice because they mess up and/or try to take advantage of the system. And some get stepped on hard and some get off, and some take advantage of the situation. It's any ones call and no sure thing a "celebrity" will get off light, after all it's a cultural thing and we are all just kind of a social sculpture in process by the powers that be. Do your thing but stay out of trouble or you can't do your thing and you just never know who might get slammed or get off regardless of status and fame. You gotta pay your dues if you sing the blues. Don't get caught up in counter productive mistakes, do well and stay clean.

Because everyone is not equal. There are those who have money, those who have celebrity status, politicians and these people are above the law.

Anyone not in one of those groups must either obey the law or have a case that will make a law firm tons of money otherwise they have to take their chance with the legal system the same as the rest of the working class.

Mucho money = vast shot legal professional. comparable element happens with drug sellers. they have hundreds of hundreds of greenbacks and can arise with the money for the good attorneys. they might generally get an acquittal in line with their previous dealings with the State legal professional's workplace. Plus places like California have long term relationships with Hollywood. the vast earnings SoCal make a contribution to campaign money, and lawmakers and judges return the prefer writing rules and precedents that prefer the wealthy and primary. Loopholes like wrong seek warrants can get an entire case tossed in a flash.

IT is so depressing seeing those people getting away with anything because they have a good face or becasue they have a lot of money. I think that they should have the same punishments as any other guilty person.

Money and publicity. The system isn't about fairness, it's about the money. That's why there are fines, taxes, fees, etc. They also have fans, agents, managers, and others "lobbying" for them.
if you're poor or indigent, you have less access to high quality legal representation.
BTW, they really don't want to put anyone in prison, unless you're violent. They really want your $$$$.

Having great lawyers helps. Having money helps. Being known all around the world helps. Maybe we all should be celebrities, then we won't be complaining.

Better lawyers and being able to pay judges off. However, how do we know that normal people dont get as many chances because its not like we here about them as much as celebrities.

It's because they have millions and can afford a good lawyer. If they were middle class, like us, they would probably get thrown into jail.
