Last night I was watching Adult Swim and they made a comment on their white on black text blocks during commercials that it was crazy that Marvel Comics killed off Captain America as a political statement...

So they killed the Cap' just to say how much they disagree with the choices being made in the government at this time?

Well what do you think? Was it a political stunt by Marvel Comics to kill off Captain America or was it really just something they chose to do in their comics without it being at all related to government today?

Comics have often been used to reflect certain injustices in the world at large. But seriously, political opinions from ADULT SWIM?! That weirds me out more!

no it was not a political statement- read today's wall street journal.

they already have the next 2 years for cap to come back.

I think they are finding yet another way to revamp an outdated character that they have always struggled with to keep place in time.

One who represents such myths as "the ideal family values" and "apple pie" (which is not good for you to eat).
You also have to look at the 40's which they chose not to add the BAD reality of the character too.
The reality is that a man from the 40's would think it is ok to segregate blacks and make racial slurs.

It seems like a character they have always struggled with bringing the "positive" imaginary idels to light of such a concept- but wiping the reality the negative ideals such as racism, sexism homophobia and such under the carpet.

The idea of an "endangered species" or "recycling" must seem pretty stupid to a person in the 40's. The notion of porn and dress styles and showing more skin must have been offensive to him. cursing in music. Having him oppose rock, heavy metal and rap in an offensive way.

This is a real person from the 40's.

I've read enough comics to know that the Cap'n isn't dead. Just like Superman, main characters 'die' to raise awareness of the comic book company so they can sell more copies. I bet within 2-3 years he'll be back from the dead and saving America from Nazi's once again.

It was just another cheap stunt to sell comics no less no more...it had nothing to do with the politics of America right now...
