Well i had my 40 week dr appt today, and i think she swipped my membranes, after we specifically said not to at our last appt. but everyone on here says that it hurts, to me it just felt like she was rubbing around in a circle, so it led me to believe that she did, i am a cm dialated finally and since im due today, i really think she did....
also, she wants to induce me if i dont go into labor naturally within the next week, my husband is really against it, saying he doesnt want the baby to be high when he is born, but i dotn think thats how it is...who's right? she wants to ripen my cervix, seeing as im only 40% effaced
thanks for answers!!!
****due today****

If you're baby is in the womb too long it could suffer grave consequences so if the dr wants to induce let her do it. It's safer for the baby.....have your dr tell your husband about the consequences of not inducing and keeping the baby in the womb...good luck and congrats!! hope you don't have to be induced but if you do it's not the end of the world!

My friend had her membrane stripped just a couple weeks ago and she says it HURTS. I think you'd know it. The doc may be have been checking your cervix and dilation. If you don't want to be induced, the doctor can't force you. Just tell her no thank you, that you'll wait. If the doctor does not make you comfortable, you can switch at any time, that's your right as a patient.
I was induced and my son was not "high" when he was born. The only negative things I have to say about it is the contractions were STRONG and close together. I had to have a minor pain pill just so I could breathe between contractions. There has been one study that may have linked use of pitocin to some troubles with early breastfeeding, but I absolutely had ZERO problems. My son latched on very well and was nursing well just a couple hours after birth. You sound like an educated mother and father team and if you two agree to wait it out, that's great. Afterall, due dates are estimates and you may be a few days "behind" your due date naturally. Good luck and congratulations!

What you felt with the circular motion was probably the dr tracing the cervix to see how far you are dialated. The hormone used to induce labor is a natural hormone made by your body to start labor. The pitocin given to start labor is a synthetic to the hormone your body is already making. This will not make your baby seem "high". What will make your baby seem "high" are the pain meds that can be given during labor to ease the pain. I delivered my first with no pain meds at all, it was 100% natural. With my second I labored 7 hours and the dr wanted me to have a shot for pain control because my blood pressure was out of control. I got the shot, and before it had time to take affect which is about 15 minutes, I had the urge to push when the nurse got to the door to leave my room. Just 2 short minutes after I got the shot my daughter was born so she had no effects and I didn't feel any effect until long after she was born.

It doesn't sound like she did. I have had my membranes stripped with more than one pregnancy, and I assure you, it doesn't just feel like rubbing. Remember that any kind of activity in that area, especially at 40 weeks, can get labor underway.
I'll also tell you that stripping the membranes or inducing for that matter is not going to hurt a thing. You don't want to go too far past the 40th week. The womb begins to deteriorate, and it doesn't sustain the baby as well as before. It's not going to hurt the baby to come at all. He/she has had more than enough time to develop. The baby won't be "high" or show any reaction to inducing medications.

Pitocin does not make the baby "high." Trust me I've been induced 3 times. By the way, if you want pain medication during delivery, get it. You husband does not have the right to tell you you can't have it. The baby will be just fine, it isn't your husband who has to suffer from the pain now is it? It is common practice to induce if you go over your due date. There are many things that can happen if you go too far past your due date. The placenta will eventually stop providing nurtients to the baby for one. Two, the baby could get to big to deliver naturally, then your husband would be really upset because you don't get a choice on being drugged for that one (csection). personally I would tell your husband that he can make the decisions when he can give birth. But thats just me :)

im 37 weeks and 60% effaced and a little over a cm dialated, and i feel like im just as ready as you are! lol. I dont think induction will make the baby high, the doctors do it all the time... I think that once the baby is here, everyone will be relieved, and it wont matter how it got here. Talk with your doctor and get answers from her... that can help ease your curiosity. But I think that induction should be fine... you dont want baby in there too long b/c thats just as dangerous as it coming out too early.. Good luck, God bless, and hopefully you'll be going into labor soon!!!

I believe what you felt was the doctor checking to see how soft your cervix is and if it had opened at all. This is quite normal. If for some reason you were 4 cm dialated and didn't know it, you wouldn't want to deliver your baby on the side of the road, ha-ha. Scraping the membranes is very painful, takes some time, and you bleed afterwards. I'm sure you would have noticed.

That doesnt get the baby high. I was induced with my 2nd son and was in labor for only an hour. What they give you is natural , the same thing your body produces and gets you into labor. Thats all up to you, but there is nothing wrong with induction. It doesnt sound like she stripped your membranes.

First off, induction does not mean that your baby will be high. Give me a break.
That said, I don't know if there is any way to tell for sure if your doctor swept your membranes. Maybe others who have had it done can give you more info.
Is your doctor giving you any MEDICAL reasons as to why she wants to induce you? I would think she'd want to wait until at least 2 weeks past due.
This is your pregnancy. If you don't like her answers, see another doctor in the practice or another office alltogether if you want a different opinion. You deserve to know everything that is going on.

It does sound like your doctor stripped your membranes. When I had it done it just felt like his finger went around in a circle and pulled a little. If induced the baby will be just fine when it's born, it will only be "high" if you get narcotic drugs. But if you don't want your doctor pressuring you to get induced, make sure you aren't acting impatient when you are in for your checkups. There's no reason you have to be induced if you don't want to, but you may have to go get tests done to make sure everything is okay. It sounds like your doctor is not taking you seriously and making sure your wishes are being met.

Congratulations. Your baby will not ge high when born if you are induced or if you take pain medicine or epidural. They use petocin to induce labor and it is used every day by alot of women and there babies are just fine. It is the same with epidural or pain medication it is used everyday by pregnant women and has been for years. I understand and commned your husband for being concerned but he should just relax.(I know easier said then done) It may come to the point that something has to be used to help induce you. Some women just need help to get their bodies in labor.
