This is a decent question, don't listen to the others. Fertilizer is important for plants, but overuse could cause serious problems. The fertilizers, if used correctly will make a nice plant that has deep roots. The label of fertilizers will give the proper usage.

The run off and other issues that have been described are a problem, but not as much as plant burning. If too much fertilizer is applied, the plants will be burned and they will die. If this happens, water, water, water.

fertilizers are plant food. plants need food to grow, just like you did when you were little..

Good things.. ? they help plants grow.

Bad things..? they can be overused and can run off into waterways, creating algal bloom and unbalanced streams and ponds.

ah.. next time use spellcheck.. please?
