Parents would be able to keep their kids from hearing the stories, and so they should, but that would be a great idea. If kids grew up understanding some people marry men and some people marry women the world would be a better, more understanding place. People who worry it will "turn the kids gay" are just misinformed. It won't make a straight kid gay, they'll just know that not everybody else in the world is the same as them. And it'll mean that kids with gay parents won't be teased as much for it. I had a friend at school with two mums, and she got so much shlt from the other kids. If children were raised to be more accepting of people's differences she wouldn't have had that problem. The same applies for needing children's stories with characters from different races and religions. Kids need to know it's okay for someone to be different. For the benefit of society and for themselves.

I found this on another strand and this is only being premiered on 14 primary schools in what are tens of thousands of schools throughout the country.
Children are naturally inquinsitive and will come to adults with questions. In our library today I found a book about a character that deals with a family divorce - so how many here would object to that? Yet so many families go through this.
Homosexuality does need to be approached in school, but at the right time. And that's probably not at primary school.

I think it's a matter of time before it is introduced to school children. However i'm quite indecisive about this part of me thinks it shouldn't be and my other part says why not. One reason is what gives us the right to say kids should be told about it plus to this day kids are not thought homosexualism but we have so many homosexual adults so does it really matter????????
Thank God I don't have kids (at least just yet)

I've never heard of it - and no I really don't think this is helpful at such a young age. This country is already a big joke and this would take some beating!!
I am not homophobic however I do believe that traditions should be kept as it is still only a minority that are gay. This sould be left until at least high school before discussing with children.
Let children be children as long as possible. Childhood is very important and adults have too much negative on children as it is!

I reckon it should be up to the parents if they want thier children to enroll on it, but I think since sexuality is more open point today then it's a good idea.
Why should we all be brought up and hidden about other sexualities and just remain to the holy straight sexuality all the time that they teach.

Why not gays dont hurt people and it will help stamp out homophobia.
its cannot make kids gay.
besides the best kids presneters are camp as chritmas as are gameshow hosts, hairdressers, chefs, many theatre actors, pantomime actors etc etc.

I've seen a book on politically correct fairytails, bought it for a social worker friend of mine. Nothing happens in the stories, no one ever gets upset and nothing is resolved. Fantastic. So to answer your q's no and yes.

No. The end of the age of innocence keeps getting pushed back earlier and earlier. Why not just let kids be kids and not clutter up their lives with such things.

Isn't "homosexual fairy" oxymoronic? :)
Let's see: I take from your question that you're OK with non-homosexual fairy tales, such as the ones that have witches boiling and eating children, anthropomorphic animals eating children, involve beanstalks and giants, little old non-married heterosexual ladies who have dozens of kids outside of wedlock and live in shoes, etc. Those are values you consider OK to teach your children, but you're against anything that has to do with two people who love each other if they're the same sex...
Personally, I think it's *your* values that need examining -- the "fairy tales" are fine.
Peace.

Why not? Kids as young as five listen to STRAIGHT fairy tales, why not gay ones? It's not like it's going to make them "convert" or anything like that!
And NO the parents shouldn't have the right to refuse this for their child - because parents shoudn't be allowed to keep their kids ignorant!!!
