Im 19, catholic, (layman) and I want to leave right away, so i'll be working for the money to go or should I go to college and learn something before I go, I would rather go now because surely I would be trained by the missionaries once there. So my question is should I go now or should I study, is it nessecary?

just follow your heart dearie but if you want the truth, maybe try going to college first because if ever you wouldn't like your missionary life, you can work w/ whatever profession you've finished in college. That way, you wouldn't be wasting any of your time.

What type of work will you be doing as a missionary?
Will you be teaching? Helping with the agriculture? Building?
I ask this because having some background in these areas from college may be helpful.

You can go now, if you want- I am not sure what work missionaries do now. When I was younger, missionaries did a lot of teaching - reading and public health.

Have you spoken with anyone in the group you plan to join? Perhaps one of them can help you with this.

Good luck. It's hard work but it will be rewarding.

Ignore Jennifer's comments about Bible College. That wouldn't be appropriate for a Catholic -- as all Bible Colleges are protestant (and therefore heretics).

Missionaries are first and foremost teachers. If you are not yet trained, then you have nothing that you can contribute. Go to college (choose a Catholic college if you feel the calling).

Once trained -- please do not come to my neighborhood. I fall into the category of people who would be offended by someone preaching to me. Besides -- after 16 years of Catholic school -- there isn't much you could tell me about the Church that I don't already know. My Catholic training turned me into an agnostic. If you are lucky -- it might do the same for you.

Personally, I think bible college will do you a lot of good especially if you want to be a missionary. Don't worry about it though. Ask God to open and close doors for you and he'll guide your next move.

What makes you think other people want to hear about your religious beliefs? They already have their own beliefs. Respect them by keeping your religious fantasies to yourself.
