If so, how was the pregnancy? How much grief did you get from midwives/Drs etc about being large? How much weight did you put on during the pregancy?

My sister was 22 stone and aged 40 when she had her first baby.
No trouble with anyone at Chase Farm hosp in Enfield except for a red mark on her file to let all medical staff know she was over 40.I think she put on a couple of stone during pregnancy and hasnt lost it yet! 3 years down the line
She had support from all the staff and nobody mentioned her size.
She had a perfectly normal delivery and a beautiful baby girl

Thanks I had to look that up. I'm in the US and never heard of "stone" as a measurement. So, a stone is 14 lbs, which would make you around 280 lbs. I was a little over weight when I got pregnant (no where near this amount) and my dr keeps telling me I'm only supposed to gain 15 lbs. or I guess 1 stone. (which is extremely hard). But, all drs are different, if you're not pregnant yet, they might try to help you change your diet to lose some weight. There was a woman here in the states recently that made news she was 400 lbs or 28 stones and she had a perfectly healthy baby. So, don't worry, you should be fine.

I was over 18 stone when I fell pregnant and I am now 31+weeks and I've put on just over a stone.

I have problems with my pelvis and pubic bone but this hasn't really got anything necessarily to do with my weight.

You do get treated differently, I had to go for a glucose tolerance test and I have to see an anaesthetist next week (not entirely sure why though) and I have had problems with my blood pressure but i have also been very stressed out so this could be a combination.

At my last GP appointment my GP told me that I should be pleased with myself because I haven't put on loads of weight but then added that hopefully indigestion will kick in soon so I'll stop eating!!!!!

Be prepared though, allot of people think that pregnant obese women are a strain on the NHS and can give you grief...nice!!!

with my first baby, i was normal weight and put on 3 - 4 stone, i didnt get any grief, this time round i was slightly over what i should be and have put on about 2 stone, i was offered a nutritionist when i went to my booking appiontment this time but still didnt get grief, midwives are there to help you through your pregnancy and give you good advice not make you feel bad, if this happens request a new one!
oh and good luck... im due on sunday yay!!

ive always been big, but not 20 stone, but knew i needed to be carefull with putting on extra weight so went to weight watchers throughout both of my pregnancies and lost weight both times, i was in labour during one of the meetings (early stages) and then went back a week later with my baby in my arms, needless to say i had the biggest weight loss that week, a couple of stone with the baby and the placenta and managed to be just over 2 stone lighter than before i fell pregnant. i had never eaten so well, with my baby's health in mind, a well balanced diet, my first child was 6 pound 10 and next 8 pound. they are 21 and 22 now and have always been really healthy. good luck

I'm overweight, and this is my second pregnancy, Ive been told that it is possible to have no weight gain or even loss during pregnancy if you are over weight. personally i went out of my way to lose weight before conceiving as it can do some real permanent damage eg stretch marks if you gain too much. sadly i was unable to shift a lot of my first pregnancy weight and paid the price as my body really has altered. the best advice i can give is to see your GP who will give you information on the best ways to lose weight and maintain during a healthy pregnancy. good luck xxx

there are serious health issues associated with being 20 stone, male or female. being that size and pregnant increase these risks and imposes them on your unborn child too.

There are issues relating to health and safety should the hospital staff every have to assist and repositioning you during birth.

You need to think about being able to fun active things with your child and just being a touchline spectator when ever they want to run, play football etc..

Plus, to allow yourself to become such an unhealthy size, does not present a very good role model to your child.

It is proven that as we have evolved babies have weighed lighter, because we don't carry them as long perhaps due tpo diet or natural causes.
