i was born and rasied in cleveland i tell ya now that i have a family u couldnt pay enough to live in that crap city, even most surrounding cities and suburbs are becoming run down slowly. The crime rate is too high and it seems like no one cares. My fil had someone come into his house and beat up his 14 yr old son (whihc i might add he was an adult assaulting a minor) and the prosecutor is "leaning" towards pressing charges, come on what message does that send. But anyways its a fun place if u dont have a family and just want to party, there is alot to do. I would visit downtown for the museums and the playhouse and such but i would live in a cardbaord box before i ever live there again. The schools werent that bad when i went to them but my brother now goes to the one high schooland ya i wouldnt want my kids going there, the suburd schools closely surrounding cleveland arent much better either. i wouldnt waste my time on that run down POS place. Oh and it was ranked what number 2 in highest crime rate or whatever, ya i dont like visiting family and wanting to do to the nearest burger king and them saying to lock the doors and dont roll the window down alot and roll it bakc up after ordering. I now live in middlefield which is all amish country and u can leave ur keys in the ignition of ur car and not worry, i even accidently went to the store with my front door completely open and came back and everything was good. But basically around here u gotta either live in the country or pay 300 thousand for a house in a rich nieghborhood. good luck to ur friend

Cleveland is a nice place to raise a family. There are excellent suburbian public schools that have been awarded "Blue Ribbons" and several private schools. The hospital facilities are great (Cleveland Clinic & University Hospital) and there ae nice museums. Cleveland can be very pretty in the spring, summer and fall. The snow in the winter becomes depressing after the 20th snowfall of the season. As for the nightlife, there are a couple spots but nothing compared to Miami. Actually, it's like comparing apples to oranges! Like it was said before, every city has some form of a "ghetto" but Cleveland city housing isn't as bad as some. I love Miami and like to vacation there and visit the beaches!

My husband's parents live in the suburbs of Cleveland and I have been there several times to visit. Downtown is pretty decent, but there are some scary parts of the city. My father-in-law said he read somewhere that it was the poorest city or maybe he said it was the poorest capital city in the US...not sure (he was kinda surprised though)... they live in Avon Lake which really isn't far from the city (My father-in-law works in the city). It's the kinda place where you can leave your doors unlocked and it's right on the lake (I walk to the lake when I visit). So if your firend is looking for a place like that tell him to check it out.

I lived in the Cleveland area and have for most of the past fifteen years or so. Downtown and the outlying suburbs are the places to be. Outside downtown, in the City proper, there are pockets of poverty like any other large City (except, maybe, San Diego because it appears no poor people can afford to live there). I think that it's a good place to live if you're in the burbs.

I am from a small town in the mountians in Oregon, and usually hate going to the cities in the mid-west. However i went to Cleveland about a year and had a great time. I was visiting for a wedding, and went to the Rock N Roll hall of fame, the botanical gardens and ate at some great restaurants. I am sure there are "ghetto" areas but every city has those. I thought it was a decent place to visit but not my taste for living.

Yes, Cleveland is a great place to live and to leave in the Winter. The weather is good here, in general, and the cultural and sport activities here are top notch. Its an easy city to get around and the cost of living is low here. Lived here all of my life.

well, i live in c-town now, n personally...da city aint got no hope. very few attempts bein made to help cleveland. i aint met 1 person, in my neighborhood...or surrounding areas who happy here. In my summary just from livin here so long...there r diff places in cleveland to choose from, but none that do good for me. Downtown is mainly businesses n stuff, mainly composed of suburbian ppl, or from bordering counties, like Summit, Portage, Medina, etc...Not much housin downtown. They got the reserve square apartments on E.12 n Superior, too expensive, and Chesterfield next to it, less expensive. a lot of ppl who live downtown go to the 2 nearby colleges, CSU n Tri-C...both r good schools n im currently a student at Tri-C, n they work w students well. now outside downtown in the urban area, aka "ghetto"...they got the west side, n the east side. I live in da near west side, which is mainly Puerto Rican/Spanish decent...n they gotta large hospital up da street, MetroHealth...further out west, but not really a suburb is Lakewood, which has a large Arabic and LGBT community. like around W117th n Detroit/Clifton. Da east side aint much diffrent than da west, except mainly the east side has more black population. clevelands a ghetto, but im used to it. its an easy city to adjust to. they got Cleveland Hts on the east side, which is more expensive n historical...known for its artistic history and one of the best national universities, CWRU. Public transporation, RTA, honestly aint that great. buses always late, and not that frequent. if u miss a bus, expect to wait outside in da freezin cold for an hour, i did it too much. high schools in the city aint that great, i went to rhodes...which is one of the best of the public schools. but a lot of construction is needed on it. Not much nightlife outside of downtown...if u into that, try the flats...but usually most clubs close at like 1am, maybe 2am if lucky. not like miami. they got nice malls tho, tower city downtown is a big mall inside terminal tower. they get some events in the summer, dependin on the interest. the subarbs mainly for da rich/middle class white ppl, but a lot of friction between urban cleveland n the suburbs...racism bein a key factor. i dnt like parma at all. buses run very poor out there...nothin like nyc or chi-town. cleveland started workin on a RTA corridor thing, but that was last yr, and not much progress was made. they workin on a new shoppin center with most of da good stores called steelyard commons...prolly da biggest improvement in a long time. www.steelyardcommons.com try that site out. cost of livin depends on the area, or the managment...but employment oppurtunities aint that high. if i was u, id stay in miami...iz too diffrent from there, and unless u want 4 drastic seasons and witness a fight daily, and be in da joke city of da nation...move to c-town, it depends on wut u really want more outta life! g'luck...
