I'm trying to compare the 2. What are their responsibilities, pay scale and time they put into the job? Are they required to do after school activities, benefits, work load etc. I am writing a paper to compare the two, but also trying to decide which one I want to be, or to be an assistant and then a teacher.

A teacher is in total control in and outside the classroom. The teacher will have to prepare lessons, teach the lessons, mark the work, attend various meetings and parents evenings. They are the main influence on the children so will have more responsibilities than a teaching assistant.

A teaching assistant is usually assigned to work with a certain or group of certain students within the lesson. They will just help them to make sure that the work needs to be done is completed in the given time. They may also need to hand out sheets to students or walk around the class at times to check on all students.

Regarding the pay, a teacher is on more money than a teaching assistant because they have more responsibility and have had more training to get where they are. They will spend more time on the job making sure that all work is completed.

As for trying to decide whether to be a teacher or a teaching assistant, I had the same problem. I found that after helping out in lessons in a school that I liked having the responsibility of helping all children learn and not just being with selected people for the whole lesson. I also like the reward you get when you notice that the children understand you and always ask for help!! So I decided to be a teacher, more hard work but more rewarding.

Hope this helps

The teacher gets payed more no doubt about it, they do the grading and anything requiring parents consent and meeting with the parents. They usually do the actual "teaching" in the classroom. As far as the teacher's assistant They do the assisting. Helping students if the teacher is busy. Handing things out/Collecting things. Basically teachers deal with the "legal work"

Education and state certification are required to teach,
a teachers assistant, or aide, although at times indispensible
is basically a gofer (no disrespect intended)_

Be a teacher we need lots -- and be a good one.
