There is an old saying "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps" . . .
If you put on some boots and try it , you realize it would be really hard . . . and so it is with depression . .
Because , to overcome , you need energy to figure out what is wrong and make the changes BUT energy is usually in short supply when depressed.
Take the time to
1) Contemplate about & identify what you really want.
2) Figure out several paths to acheive those goals
3) Make the effort to eat healthy so that some energy can be regained . . . and a can of red bull may help too.
I truly wish you succeed as many today are emotionally down from both the economic and social problems we encounter.
When you find something that works for real (NOT some med to make you docile) . . .
Share your findings with others, MANY need it.

First of all, you need to see a mental health professional. A psychiatrist is your best bet, because they can provide the therapy you need, and also determine if you have a chemical or hormonal imbalance and prescribe medication is necessary.

A good psychiatrist will use medicine as a last resort. The good ones will do one on one therapy with you, and many often prescribe group therapy as well. If nothing seems to be working, they do a physical evaluation to assess which medications might be helpful and go from there. If a doc wants to prescribe meds and nothing else.....get a 2nd opinion. Drug pushing docs are in it for the money, and not the well-being of their patient.

Edit: And baseball....you've obviously never been depressed, or you wouldn't be hyping the Jesus only evangelism crap. People who are TRULY depressed need more than just a religious fantasy to cling to. They need something concrete. Something that can really help them. Not religious mumbo-jumbo. I personally think Jesus causes more depression in this country than anything else. Peple think that by believing in huim, their life will be perfect....and then when it isn't, and they realized they are just as bad off as they were before, they fall even deeper into depression. ESPECIALLY if they gave a bunch of money to a church and get nothing in return.....

Holy cow!!! And Kristen, you've got to be kidding with the eating a lemon crap. Eating a lemon does NOT make someone overcome the bitterness of life. All it does is have the acid of the lemon eat away at the enamel of your teeth and be more depressed ebcause the acid from the lemons gave them a stomachache.

There is i simple answer to your problem, an trust me i am not crazy. Eat a lemon. An entire lemon and try not to flinch. if you do flinch, then try again. and if you can eat a whole lemon without flinching, than you have overcome the bitterness of life. Once you have finish the lemon, eat a lot of strawberry's, then you will have taste the sweetness. Then eat some celery, you will have taste the depression. Would you rather the bitter lemon that gave you a victory. Th sweet strawberry, or the celery. the celery that is so plain and waist full of your precious time.

I wish I knew. It s been a battle for me the moment I was born.

I m tired of fighting. I want to just have peace. This planets government, the way it works things here, won't allow it. Unless you are there robot like most, or are rich.

If there was a peacefull way to go to my home in the spirit world, like drink a liguid and it puts me to death painlessly, i d do it.

But there is nothing like that. It s too harsh to do anything that is available today.

Governments (and most people) allow other s to kill themselves slowly, by smoking ciggerrettes, or drinking alcohol.

Thats an insane way, to die slowly and painfully.

Yet they will Not allow the most Humane way, which is quick and painless and clean.

personally, those who wish to leave, should be given a peacefull way to do it.

Since the government takes responsibility to tell us what we have to do to live here, then they better take full responsiblity for there actions. If they tell others how they have to live, then it s only fair and responsible to allow people that don t want to stay here, to then have a peacefull painless quick way to leave.

but alas, even people who may read this, will worry because they have become robot s of the government;s thinking .

wether they know it or not, they have become the robot s of society. doing without thinking.. following without learning.

It is very difficult. Often it takes a shock to the system to snap you out of it, usually when self-destructive behaviour reaches it's peak and you do something really, really stupid. Sometimes, just sometimes, you can look at yourself and realise that happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy...or not. It is not necessarily an easy thing to do, but you just have to believe, and keep believing(that's the hard part).

medications can be needed.

But also try.

Cleaning up your space.
Whittling down your todo list.
Getting out around people.
Purposely meeting people.
Sitting for at least 20 minutes with sunlight on your face.
Prayer and Bible Reading.

Beats the hell out of me. Been dealing with chronic depression since I was in elementary school. Go to therapy and get out of the house and find a hobby.

Get plenty of light. Do something. Get around someone funny or witty. Find something that intrests you and when that gets boring find another. Exercise till you drop. Don't worry about anything you can't change. Have a glass of wine.

Talk to Jesus. He is the fulfillment of all your needs, he gives life meaning and purpose. Without him you'll always be wanting something more, living without purpose. I have never regretting turning my life over to Him. I used to be so miserable I wanted to kill myself. It's been about 9 years since that point. Jesus is good, and now life is good.
