I would like to check out the expansion pack for diablo 2, but I'm afraid noone plays anymore. So does anyone still play this online? If you play the expansion online could you let me know approximately how many people on battle.net are playing it?

What do you mean by playing? There are lots of people who are online. But if you're talking about doing quests and stuff, then it's not so many. If you're talking about people treasure or rune hunting, then lots of people. Also lots of people who hang around just to perm their mule or trading with others.
You can play online by yourself. You don't need to play with others, but it makes the quests a whole lot easier if you play with others. I've done all the quests from normal to hell by myself with each of the 7 classes twice and then some.

Does anyone still play? Way too many for the servers to handle if you're Eastern US... The servers kick people off left and right all the time during primetime (6pm to 10pm) or you time out, etc. It's SO ANNOYING!
The expansion is pretty much a pre-requisite for playing the game anymore. If you want to get the full effect definitely get it.. I don't even think you can buy the game anymore without it anyway.. go buy the "Diablo Battle Chest" at Walmart for like $20.00 and it comes with Diablo 1, Diablo 2 and the expansion to boot..
Thousands are playing at any given time.. you'll never be without someone to invite to your game.
But, again, I'd avoid playing at night at least not on Eastern US... it's pretty horrific.

Well I dont have the game myself anymore, but I do believe if you go to blizzards website, blizzard.com , there should be traces to go to a Diablo specific part of the site, that should have somewhere on it a general census on the approxamite amount of players, and hey if your gunna spend your money on something, for a one time cost, Id say thatd be the way to go, I personally do World of Warcraft, but I dislike the reoccuring fee..... But it could cost more so Im happy, It jus cuts back on the other stuff

Tons, about 12 servers worth still.
Usually theres a good few hundred online. But beware. there are also plenty more hacks now. :/

don't worry, plenty of people still play. if you haven't played online you haven't really experienced diablo to it's fullest. get it, it's worth the 20 bucks.

When I log onto the chat room, it says there are about 50,000 people online. =)
There are usually tons of people anyways.
