Both.
I believe the human beings can substitute one trougth another, i have know people who are not very inteligent, but have acomplished things making efforts and getting the best education they can.
And i have met people who haven't got formally education, but have been clever enougth to get where they have wanted to be.
But if my son asks, perhaps, i would encourage him to have the formal education, as a complement of his inteligence, you have to try to get the best of both worlds, if you have the chance to do it.
