Is this a trick question?? There are several reasons.
A flute fits in a case with a handle... usually if it is in a case with a handle then it is relatively easy to transport.
A flute has keys that are maneuvered by eight fingers and one thumb and as a general rule the hand position doesn't change. A finger can be responsible for more than one key but again the hand position doesn't change. A piano has 88 keys and your hands can move all over the key board.
A flute is hollow while a piano is full of hammers, keys and strings and probably the most obvious difference is
A flute weights about two pounds where a piano can weigh thousands of pounds depending on if you are talking about an upright or a concert grand. Granted, most of them have wheels, but that doesn't make it easy to move.

This is going in my list of stupidest questions of the day, March 13th, 2007.
But to answer your question, flutes are small and pianos are large. Hence, a greater effort is required to move the piano.

Are you trying to be stupid?
Have you seen the size of a flute compared to that of a piano? If you have, you won't be asking a question like this.
Why do people let their pet cats or dogs sit on them & not pet elephants. They're both animals.

Yes, but you can stick a flute in your pocket and walk to the store or a friend's house. Ever try to take a walk with a piano in your pocket?

There's the rub. Pianos are easy to move around, if you are superman. And if the flute is made of kryptonite, welllllll .

That's a stupid question.
Because pianos are BIGGER.
They have to be different sizes because they make different sounds.
