Which crash? I'm not being facetious - each of the crashes occured for their own reasons. Black Tuesday was due to rampant speculation in immature sectors that led to a rapid sell-off. Black Monday had to do with irrational exuberance. The 2001 crash began with a sell-off stemming from an excess of funds with too few places to put them (ie, investors became more wealthy and took on far more risk than usual).

I'm posting some places to look. You will want to narrow down your topic, unless you'd like to write a PhD thesis:

If youre talking about the crash in 1929, basically the market was overextended from the boom in the 20's. It began to sell off sharply but it caused a panic by investors due to a lack of information.

Check Wikipedia. They have a nice articel about it. Type in Stock market crash.

Because it's the nature of the beast. Markets go up and down. There is no logic or rationality to it. It is governed by greed and fear, emotions that can't be controlled. So there always be corrections and crashes and nobody can predict them.
