You need to understand that when your ovaries release an egg and it travels down the Fallopian tube it doesn't go like a pinball game.
The egg takes a few days to travel down the Fallopian tube and anytime that the egg is in the tube it can be fertilized.
You need to also understand that unless you are right on the button every month with your ovulation and period, the rhythm method is a very risky way to prevent pregnancy. It's right up there with withdrawal which means it's just a matter of time before you become pregnant.

You physically cannot get pregnant unless there is an egg there to fertilize. The reason why the days before you ovulate are your "fertile days" is because as you approach ovulation, your body produces a clear, slippery, stringy fluid that is called fertile mucus. The purpose of that mucous is to create an environment that sperm can survive in until it reached the egg. The sperm can survive in that environment for up to 5 days as it travels to the Fallopian tubes to meet the egg. On the day that you ovulate (which is not exactly the same days every month, and the only way to know for sure that you have is to take your temperature every morning), the egg is released. When it travels through the Fallopian tube, there is either sperm there or not. If you have sex on the day that you ovulate, the fertile mucous may be at it's peak and the sperm may be able to get there to meet the egg. The egg dies if not fertilized in around a day (maybe more, maybe less). You should read the book that I listed as my source. It is very informative, and you should be able to get it at any library.

Your egg only lives 12 to 24 hours. BUT sperm has been known to survive up to 5-7 days inside a woman's body. A more typical lifespan would be 2-3 days though. You have to have sex BEFORE you ovulate or possibly on the day of ovulation. The day after ovulation the egg is typically dead. You always allow 48 hours though--in case you ovulate twice. A second egg release happenes withtin 24 hours of the first.
So your fertile window is about 5-7 days before ovulation and 2 days after. This is the longest amount of time you would be fertile.

If you have problems to get pregnant you can check this method http://pregnancy.kyma.info
It is a great method that helps to solve naturally infertility problems and it has already been tested by a lot of people with great results.
I definitely reccomend it and i'm sure that will help you! Anyway don't stress over it, stress can make it harder to get pregnant for most women.
Just remember that ovulating occurs about two weeks before your period, if you have a regular cycle. There are also some things you can do to help determine whether you are close to, ovulating, or not close.
Online there are sites that will tell you the best tips to get pregnant faster.
You can get pregnant in less than a month when trying this http://pregnancy.kyma.info
You can also determine when you're ovulating with an ovulating prediction kit, you can buy them at most stores and they are found with the pregnancy tests. You can also buy a basal body temperature thermometer.
There have been many women to succeed with those types of methods. Did you know that it can take up to a year for most couples to conceive a baby, even when they have sex everyday for a year? It's actually normal. Conception isn't quite as easy as people make it out to be. Don't stress because it will happen for you.

you can get pregnant on your fertile days but the closer to Ovulation day the better your chances. Ovulation is the Most Fertile day that is the day the egg actually travels down the fallopian tubes. However, you can also still get pregnant two days after ovulation as seeing that an unfertilized egg can survive for up to 48 hours.
hope this helps.

I heard one theory that best chance to get pregnant is 24 hours before you ovulate. It takes time for sperm to travel to the fallopian tube. Not sure what time it exactly costs. I've asked this question and got no better answer.
According to my search, from the time of intercourse, to the time sperm arrives at the fallopian tube, some say it takes 6 hours, some say it takes 24 hours. It also depends on the presence of fertile mucus. Fertile mucus can guide sperm movement and significantly shorten the time.
Suppose it takes 24 hours, then if you have intercourse on the day of ovulation, by the time sperm reaches the egg, the egg might already starting to degenerate. So I guess the safe way is to have intercourse before the day of ovulation.

Here is the deal, you get pregnant when you ovulate..obviously. But since the egg only stays alive for 12-24 hours, it is best to have sex every other day during your fertile days to ensure that there is sperm in your system "waitin" for the egg. if you chart your temp, you will notice a spike on your ovulation day, but most will tell you, altho it is possible it is unlikely to concieve if you have sex after the temp spike.

It takes about two hours to make the entire journey to the egg; however, some sperm are Olympic swimmers and can reach the egg in a half an hour. If no egg is available to fertilize, the sperm swim around patiently waiting to bump into one. Because there is no chemical or physical attraction of the sperm for the egg, the sperm literally must bump into the egg.

The test could be faulty, or maybe you just didn't get pregnant. Despite all the hype around "you must always us a condom or you'll get pregnant" it isn't entirely true. You don't always get pregnant.
