Favoritism is a form a discrimination but is based on a preference for a certain individual or maybe family members of a family business.
On some occasions, parents have favored one child over others , treating them better.
Discrimination is more often based in hostility towards a race , religion or culture and results in people refusing to rent apartments , or hire for jobs .

Favoritism: where one person out of a group is given praise and benefits though others may have done equally well.

Discrimination: where a person or persons are treated unfairly compared to the rest of the group, usually because of race, sex, religion, nationality, etc.

While favoritism is unfair treatment, it is usually marked as the person being treated REALLY well, whereas discrimination is marked as the person(s) being treated badly.
