Am I helping you with a class or something? haha. Socially economically disadvantaged students would basically be a student who comes from a family who suffers from poverty. The disadvantages could go on forever but consider just these few.
-kids who come from poverish households often have a parent who works 2 or more jobs. They also have a greater likelihood of being in a single parent household. With this, a parent may be gone until odd hours of the night just trying to get money to support the family. This effects the child's interactions, food, support with homework, sleep, etc.
- poverty also affects things at school. Think about a child who has dirty or old clothes. Think about a child who has clothes that are too small. think about a boy who only has a girl's jacket to wear because he can't afford one for him. This child would probably be a social outcast and be teased constantly.
-Disadvantages in other experiences in the community like little league, concerts, birthday parties, etc. that other children get.

I could keep going on and on, but I hope this gets you thinking in the right direction.

1) The parents were laid off work and are living as semi transients - moving around to family or friends and often living out of their car .
2) The income is too low to maintain shelter and utilities and food so often they either give up electricity ( no hot water for showers ) or give up food and are often hungry.
For real first hand accounts , visit a shelter in your area and speak with a counselor there .

have you ever read Dave Pelzers story? That is a really bad case of physical, emotional and social abuse. The poor boy was bashed, left outside in thin clothing in winter, starved, put into ice cold baths. He endured some very horrific treatment

Read Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol (or at least a summary of it) and it will give you plenty to talk about.
