One year ago I had maple flooring installed in my home. I switch back from Bona Kema and Orange Glo to clean my floors. They now have a buildup on them. What is a good product to get this film off? There is also some peeling of the finish. Some of it is understandable(around toilet where there has bee moisture) but there is also peeling around nail heads and other spots. There are nails around my counters that are not flush, and i do not know if they were ever filled, should i nail them further, and fill them? I hate to think after 1 year my floors need to be refinished but I am so disappointed with the look of my floors. HELP!!

The screen and coat procedure of hardwood floors does not require complete refinishing. Saving both time and money this be the only way to removed the build up with out damage the finish and the floors.

if you do it i recomend that you always use bona kemy to clean and maintenace the floors in the end the are the best in the world for flooring finishes!

This procedure brings floors back to thier original beauty. Frequent applications can eliminate the need for a complete refinishing at a later date. Screening prepares already finished floors to accept another coat of finish. Without the screening process, any new finishes are very likely to peel off.

It is helpful to know the histrory of your floors if you are considering this procedure. This is becausethe cleaners or waxes can conflict with this process.

Recoating a wood floor involves applying a coat of finish on top of the existing one. This procedure requires no sanding, is relatively inexpensive, and takes only a few hours to complete.

if you want to find out how much you will need to paid go to

The floor is first screened with a buffer, which slightly roughs up the surface so that the coat of finish will adhere better. The coat of finish is then applied. Call Floors in California today for your free estimate!

The important thing to remember is to use the right materials to clean the floor, that is, either vinegar and water (see maintenance information) or a commercial wood floor cleaner. Many products, such as Murphys™s Oil, will leave a residue which will not allow recoating, because the new coat of finish will not adhere very well

good luck

Well, it's not a sure bet, but I would start some where less than noticable and try some mineral spirits with some real fine steel wool. That should take the gunk off anyway, but check it first where it won't show much. Use a nail set on those 'pop ups' and you should be fine! Just use a good wax on the floor when your done with it all. Good luck!
