yes it is useful to cleanse the body of all the toxins periodically.that is the reason ancient sages of India prescribed it twice a month on the 11th day of each fortnight after full moon and new moon.you should fast for 24 hrs and not more.in between if you can afford not to drink water also it will be wonderful.you can start chanting the name of your favorite god so that you will get peace of mind too apart from health

Fasting is not the healthiest thing to do for your body. It will also only temporarily make you feel better, if it even does that at all. The best thing is to do one of those "detox" programs - I would see a licensed natural health practicioner (eg. naturopathic doctor) for more information.

If there is buildup in your body, these programs essentially clean your colon and GI tract naturally. The result is you will not feel unhealthy for quite a while, so you will not need to seek methods such as fasting.

If you look on the net you will find many sites that explain why fasting is unhealthy.
I got this off the cancer.org website:
"Fasting can have short-term side effects such as headaches, dizziness, fatigue, abnormal heart rhythms, and a fruity taste in the mouth. It can also raise the risk of an attack in people with gout. Longer-term fasting can interfere with the immune system and vital bodily functions, and can damage the liver, kidneys, and other organs. Fasting can be especially dangerous in people who are already malnourished...

Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding should not fast.

Relying on this type of treatment alone, and avoiding conventional medical care, may have serious health consequences."

I fasted for a week once. I lost nearly 40lbs. - that was a surprise. I remember feeling really bad about half way into it - very lethargic, crampy in my stomach. I realized that I wasn't drinking nearly enough water but after not eating for a few days, it was hard to swallow even water. Then, when I finally did eat, I gained all the weight back - almost instantly. Obviously, I lost a lot of water weight.

Ever since my fast, my body holds on to every thing I eat, like I'm gonna starve again and it makes losing weight very difficult for the same reason.

I liked fasting - I felt good, in control of myself, but I think it really wrecked my metabolism and I wouldn't recommend fasting to anyone for weight loss purposes or doing it for more than a day or so because of what it did to my metabolism.

Hope this helps!

I feel very good if I fast, BUT ONLY ONE DAY. Seems to right the things you did wrong. Of course, still drink liquids, especially water. On a fasting day, you should be less active and do nice things for yourself, like meditate, read, or take a long, warm bath.

And this is only allowable for healthy people. If you are diabetic or take medications, don't fast. Love you, Sammy

Yes, when ever I feel heavy from too rich food, or wrong food that has upset my digestion, I fast and take some liquids. I get relief very quickly.

yes, but not to lose weight... it's more on a religious / culture sacrifice... but if you want to give your body a break, you are better off eating the right things at the right time than not eating at all.

that's what i always tell my friends who want to go on a diet: never, ever skip meal. that is the first rule. second rule is to eat right -- no junk, etc...
