svchost.exe is needed by the system to operate, if it is infected and you cant clean the file with your antivirus software, you will need to reinstall your operating system......first try shutting down your antivirus and running an online scan to see if any of them can clean the file.......

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

One of these three sites may help, good luck......

Hi, you need svchost.exe so do not delete it. But this might help you as I had this same problem yesterday on my xp machine.

When I would start up the computer I got an error about svchost.exe

So usually its something Starting when you start your computer and can even be a safe program.

What you want to do is look at the list of all the things that start when you boot your computer. For me it was JAVA UPDATE.

Go to http://www.glarysoft.com/ and get the free program called QUICK START UP

Then when you launch the program quick start up it will show you all the programs loading when you start your computer. If you see one that says JAVA UPDATE, you want to highlight that one and delete it. You don't need it.

When I deleted it, it solved my problem.

Do not dare stop svchost.exe you wont be able to start your computer again and that's not the problem I promise you. I bet you that its in your list of programs that start. When you open quick launch look through the list and if you see things like SCHEDULER or UPDATE or words like that, disable those things.

Those are things that automatically update programs and you can still update them manually but sometimes if you have all that jazz starting when you start your computer it just can't handle it all and it errors.

Also some antivirus programs say you have a virus when you really don't. I would do this...go to the site below and make sure you are in Internet explorer. Run the free scan and it even removes, or fixes any problems you have.

Go to http://www.trendmicro.com and its free, not one of the trick sites where you have to pay.

It only works in Internet Explorer as your browser though so use that.

If that says you have no viruses I wouldn't woirry about it.

Now that mdm.exe is a debugging program. If you are having problems on your computer it trys to fix the problems so mdm is safe. Go here below to read about it.

svchost.exe is a system process belonging to the Microsoft Windows Operating System which handles processes executed from DLLs. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

Do a google search on svchost for more info

svchost.exe is a vital part of windows.....

Nortons antivirus is lately becoming bad in general.... You might have a bug trying to trigger false reports.....
I suggest AVG over nortons and thats to my "real world" customers......

Was it nortons that detected it or another anti-virus program?? Other option is also a windows repair.... NOT THE RECOVERY CONSOLE.......

uh..SVCHOST is kinda important..

that's what controls a lot of the local services in NTFS..
IF svchost.exe is infected, then you probably just need to overwrite the file by using cabextract and pulling svchost.exe off your install disc..
(go into safe mode to accomplish this)
