New York City proper is 200 miles from Boston. I'd estimate that Boston to anywhere else in New York is not much more or less than that.

If you are looking timewise, it takes about 3 1/2 hours to drive from Boston to Westchester, 4 to the City, and 4 1/2 to Long Island, allowing for one or two brief rest stops and relatively moving traffic.
The farther you go into NY the more time you generally have to add, as traffic gets more hellish. Bridges and tunnels are nightmares.
One more tip, you can go either via 95 or the Hutch, which becomes the Merritt Pkwy in CT. I HIGLYLY recommend the Hutch, unless there is reported work or crash. 95 is a truck route, and generally it's about half an hour quicker that route. Also it's prettier with much easier rest stops. Downside it's 2 lanes so if there is a brakedown etc it can be bad, but it's almost always better and drops more directly to most places/roads/bridges.
