mmmm yes was in the same situation last year but I threatened to leave knowing they wouldn't let me. Could always say your outgoings have increased dramatically due to inflation and you would appreciate a payrise to balance it out. Because you do work to live and not the other way around, so go for it, how do you think your boss got to be the boss, sure as hell wasn't from not being able to ask for what they thought they were entitled to.

It's possible that the colleague who earns more with the same job role as you has seniority. Many jobs pay a bit extra for that. If you are very unhappy about it, you can ask for the raise but make sure you express your satisfaction with the job itself & that you know you can do excellent work. The worse that could happen is that he says no, in that case you are not worse off than you are now but he now realizes that he should revalue your worth to the firm.

Tell the boss that you love your job but you think that you should earn as much as your colleague.

There is a saying "Shy bairns get nowt". Just ask. Your boss is human. You will not get sacked for asking so there is nothing to lose.
PS.Good luck!
