My collegaues and I are wondering what to do. Anyone failing to do as he says is liable to be sacked!

I don't think he can legally sack you for NOT stapling a mouse to your head, but I guess if it's part of your usual work uniform, or you have a job stapling mice to people's heads you're in trouble...

rubber or other toy mouse ( get them from a pet shop ), staple to headband or wooly hat pulled down over forehead- presumably he did not specifically ban any item between head & mouse? Or brandish large staple gun & mouse & tell him you need demonstration from him before you can comply. If this is not a joke on his part remind yourself what a plonker he will look in the tribunal as you walk out of the door.

I would use super glue.. much less painful for you and the mice (tell your boss that you don't want PETA after you).
My boss did this once, what they don't tell you is that they are bringing in huge hungry snakes. When you see the snakes, take the cue to excuse yourself to the bathroom. There is nothing harder than removing a snake from you forehead and the ER people make fun of you!

Print out a picture of a mouse. Print out a picture of yourself. Staple the picture of the mouse to your picture's forehead.

Doesn't sound unfair to me, but if you don't like the idea, perhaps your boss would let you use Blu-Tac or Sellotape instead of staples?
