good question! I think some 'boys' want to possess the girl who is friendly or nice. Or they have no experience with girls and take friendship to mean love. It does in a way...its a sort of acceptance of friendship/love if a girl takes you as a friend.
Must be a male trait to take it as a different kind of love because it's a girl instead of a guy. It's very difficult to have a male female friendship without one or the other taking it as something more. girls like to flirt...it makes them feel 'girly', 'feminine' and it doesnt mean they want to take it further...they just like to feel like a girl, feel admired, feel desired. but more often than not...guys want to 'act' on the flirtations. when girls are with girls...we are just silly together, chatty and whiney sometimes, spilling catty chatter on one another....we cant be so feminine with each other...someone might take it the wrong way too! haha

society teaches that once persons of opposite sex have who are not related are having an intimate relationship. society also support males in entering into relationships, therefore boys tends to expect to "own" girls who try to be friendly towards them. the word love is often over used and misinterpreted by most peope. children especially boys only focus on love and hate, therefore once it can be proven that a girl does not hate him then it has to be love.
