I've lived there and it's very ethnically diverse, esp. in terms of white and black people but there are many others like Latino (esp. growing), Arab, Indian, Asian, etc. You've obviously never been to much of the Deep South if you have to ask about black and white people. Almost anything in the Deep South is significantly higher in African Americans than the U.S. as a whole. At the time I lived there a good part of my apartment complex was Hispanic (possibly a majority) so that is rapidly increasing.

B'ham is somewhat odd for the South because you had more immigration back in the late 1800's-early 1900's so you get people of Italian and Lebanese/Syrian origin that is relatively rare in many parts of the South. I think Condi Rice (a native of this city) is even descended from Italians who had just come over. In all honesty, I don't know what you mean "culturally" diverse. Most of the people there have what you might call Southern culture but then you have transplants and recent immigrants who just came over too.

Well, the town has changed a great deal since 1974, with Latinos, Asians, etc. I'm not saying it's LA or New York, but there are some pretty diverse pockets, especially in the Southside area of town (which is a pretty cool place to live, if you ask me).

We moved here from Chicago several years ago, and were really surprised at how cosmopolitan this place is, with a wide variety of cultural offerings. In fact, we've gotten to do a lot more things here than we ever could have in Chicago, where every event was sold out before we could snag tickets.

Clearly you have not been to the deep south.

Culturally diverse wouldn't be the best description I would use, but I'm sure if you looked you could find all those races there.

Here is something you should know about the world: there is culturally diverse and then there is culturally diverse. Believe it or not they are not the same things.

Depends on your definition; but you will find many African-Americans and Latinos. More so than in the North.

I lived there in 1974, and if it's still like it was then, it's VERY diverse.
