Deforestation is a bad thing. I don't think there are any advantages.

Deforestation is the conversion of forested areas to non-forest land use such as arable land, urban use, logged area or wasteland. Historically, this meant conversion to grassland or to its artificial counterpart, grainfields; however, the Industrial Revolution added urbanization. Generally this removal or destruction of significant areas of forest cover has resulted in a degraded environment with reduced biodiversity. In developing countries, massive deforestation is ongoing and is shaping climate and geography.

Here are the bad things about deforestation...
1. Desication of previously moist forest soil
2. Dramatic increase in temperature extremes
3. Moist humid region changes to desert
4. No recycling of water
5. Less carbon dioxide and nitrogen exchange
6. Soil erosion

Good question. Here are some additional thoughts to consider. Forests add a good deal of water vapor to the air through transpiration, they take up CO2 and produce O2, they keep soil moist and in place preventing desertification and a resultant change in the reflectivity of the surface.

it leads to more CO2 buildup because the trees are no longer there to use it. That is a huge problem considering the rain forests provide a huge amount of oxygen for the earth.

there are really no advantages other than people growing stuff on them

Deforestation means a lot of clear land for me to build my toxic waste facility so I can make the toxic waste I dump into the oceans.

And don't think you can get Captain Planet on me either. I already killed that punk, Wheeler, and stole his ring. Muahaha!
