I also have clay soil and have real good results with vinca ground cover, it grows in full sun, shade and has purple blooms in spring. I watered and used Miracle Grow the first few months then just let mother nature water them now. I I have shared with a lot of my friends at it has long runners.

Paccasandra and vinca will both grow in clay soil and are evergreen. Buy a flat of 36 plants at your local nursery and plant them 3 inches apart.

Throw a little sand out. Almost any shade loving ground cover should do fine. I have a wandering jew that works just about everywhere in my yard, plus it has tiny pretty flowers.

Lily of the valley is another tough customer...as long as its not wet clay.

Ajuga is a choice also but it must be contained. It's an aggressive spreader.

Ajuga; tough, pretty and gets purple flowers. You can walk on it and it is year round (unlike lily of the valley)
