Me & several of my work colleagues have a suspicion that our manager who is gay (male) fancies a female work colleague who is rather butch, and favours everything she does, what action shall we take?? Please help.

If you feel the manager is practicing a form of reverse discrimination by favouring a possibly Lesbian colleague, then it should be dealt with as any other type of discrimination in the workplace. Talk to your Human Resources department.

However, make sure your charges are documented and stable.

Sad but true - you sound desperate my friend.

I feel that way sometimes, when I don't get the attention I need from my boss. When my boss is favouring someone else for whatever reason, I speak up and ask about it.

Your little click of colleagues should ask for your bosses time, and admit your concerns. If you are reprimanded for doing so, well you will have confirmation that your boss is not acting on his best principles. You will have your proof to take this further, and at the same time you will have your 'legal standing' should he choose to let you go because of your clarifying your position in the company.

Be brave, be strong and stand up for your right to be treated all as equals. Equality isn't just about orientation, or wage-match - it's about everyone getting a fair chance at a job they enjoy.

I wish you and your colleagues luck.

The manager is wrong to favour the lesbian colleague over yourselves if this is true, but would it still annoy you if the female being favoured was straight? I don't really think sexuality comes into this. If you feel you are being treated unfairly then tell your manager how you feel, but I wouldn't bring up sexuality as a reason or you'll end up sounding petty & childish.

Do you mean by "favors" that he gives her easier tasks, highlights her work over others', allows her longer deadlines, forgives her mistakes more than others?

If so, than real proof, and not suspicion would be required before you could do anything.

I suspect that because you and your coworkers know your manager and this coworker are both gay/lesbian, you are probably making more of it than is really there. I think you're probably being hypersensitive out of your personal issues with their sexuality.

I say, keep your nose in your own work and stop office gossip.

It sucks that your manager is letting his personal feelings influence the way he acts in the workplace. If it becomes a problem that makes you uncomfortable in your workplace, talk to him, but be on eggshells while doing so. Most people don't take criticism well. Sit him down and explain how you're feeling and let him know that you are not trying to be insubordinate or disrespectful.

Unless you can prove some kind of inappropriate bias there isn't anything you can do.

Not really your business, but maybe you could try to hook 'em up.
