It's not a fantastic wage but you have to look at the bigger picture. If the job has good prospects or will be good training for an even better job then go for it. Good luck!

It's a little above minimum wage, but I guess whether it's poor or not depends on how old you are and where you are on the career path. You say that you're starting a the bottom of the scale - if you mean on the bottom of the career ladder, I believe that even lowish pay is justified if it gives you valuable experience for future jobs. Experience when you're starting out is very valuable. You have to weigh up whether your employers will give you value that way and whether that is worth more to you than a better wage elsewhere.

Thats about right for having no experience and being at the bottom - just work hard and hopefully that will mean your pay will get reviewed.

Good luck with your new job I used to work in admin and people treat you like a dogsbody, just dont let people take advantage!! No to unpaid overtime

It is poor pay - just above the national minimum, but until you have experience you are not likely to earn much more. Take the job, learn as much as you can and then start looking elsewhere.

It's above the current min wage, it will get you into employment so if you subsequently change jobs you will be in a better position to negotiate something better. You will get valuable experience. Go for it & take all the training you can wangle out of them.

I think that sounds good for bottom of the scale with no experience! It depends where in the UK you are though.

Hi. It sounds like might be in the UK. I'm in California. Here $5.50/hour is not a lot.

Minimum wage is $8.00/hour. I would shoot for that considering the cost of living. At least $7.00/hour. Especially for a clerical assistant. You could make more than that for that kind of job.

I would check with the online jobsites and see what the average pay is for the position and title in your area. Check out salary.com

It's about right if you have no experience. You can negotiate a pay rise once you have some time under your belt.

It depends how old you are. If you're a school leaver then I guess it isn't too bad but older than 18 I wouldn't bother taking the job!
