In my opinion, yes, being a high school drop-out can rob you of many aspects of growing up. The first being missing the all time accomplishment of graduating. Many may not realize it but walking across the stage is and has always been a momentum of excitement, a heightened sense of well being because of the achievement. Graduating from high school goes in hand with the "adulthood" status one receives with becoming an 18 year old. Granted, at the age of 21, you are really recognized as an adult, being 18 and graduating high school is just the beginning. Graduating high school is the beginning of growing up, maturing, becoming a "man" or "woman" in today's society.
For those that have dropped out, the perception is one of negativity and many will not bestow the reward of "grown up" upon them, as it might be felt that the accomplishment having not been achieved is one lacking.
