I never know which one to use when I'm writing. They sound almost alike and they have similar meanings.

"affect" is a verb: His insults didn't affect my self-esteem.

"effect" is a noun: The drug had terrible side effects.

You are not alone. effect is the end result of the action. the effect of throwing a stone into a pond is that there will be a splash. Affect means to alter. Too much heat will affect(alter) your plants in a bad way. The effect(end result) will be that they will shrivel up. Just substitute end result for effect and alter for affect and see how you go.

Affect means to influence, to produce an effect. Avoid using affect as a noun; just say feeling or emotion. Affective is a technical term for emotional or emotive.

Along with the others, the way I tell them apart is that affect is to act upon others and effect is acted upon by others. Affect is the cause and effect is the result. As the teacher said, verb and noun.

Affect is to have an influence on or bring about change.
Effect is somthing brought about by a cause or result.

Affect is most commonly used in the sense of "to influence" (the affect of smoking on a person's health).

Effect acts upon or ifluences an object "the effect of a drug on the nervous system."

Ok, affect if what will infuecence something, It's not something solid but just what might happen if their listened to. Effect is what will happen or what has happened ie cause and effect [direct result]

Affect is when somthing does something to another object. "Lack of sleep AFFECTED my mood"

Effect is an result. The campaign EFFECTED a change in leadership
