I have a family reunion coming up the first week of May that has been planned for a year. I also have a job interview this week that if I receive a job offer it would require that I take time off. I want some opinions on how to bring up this needed time off during the interview

No need to mention during the interview. When they give you an offer, indicate that you'll need time off in May. If they want you, they'll let you take it. If they don't, they'll refuse. Then, it's up to you if you want to take the job or not.

If they grant your request, ask that it be included in your offer letter. Also, make sure to find out if this will be unpaid or not. In some cases, you cannot take paid vacation until it's earned.

But, no, do not mention during the interview.

Land the job first. Work out the details with your supervisor once you're established. Bringing it up at the interview might jeopardize your getting hired.

Whenyou discuss benefits (including paid time off), mention that you have a pre-planned vacation scheduled during the week of x.
