The front range, north Metro area. It is being built up a lot, and while you are out of the city, you are within a close distance to both Denver, Boulder and the Mountains. There are a lot of good schools around for kids, and many technology centers within driving distance as well. I've lived here for 11 years and love it.

Lakewood or Arvada the two on the brink of Denver and Northglenn with public transportation. Jefferson county has an amazing college gadget. Lakewood will quickly have easy rail into Denver to boot as bus routes.

Try towns to the northwest of Denver, you are closer to the mountains, with great views, the commute to Denver is a little better than if you are coming from the other side of town, and there's some upscale, new construction going on.

Superior/Louisville, Colorado...I just moved from there and i loved it out there. Also if you have younger kids, the schools around there are amazing. Specifically, Coal Creek. My mom just got done teaching there because we moved. The people are great, the view (right outside Boulder) is astounding, and there is virtually no crime. Also within 20 min of Denver.
