Hi Jimbo,
Unfortunately life has gotten too competitive. A batchelor's
degree in english, english literature, history, psychology, sociology can get you a chance to be a Walgreen's store manager. Having a college degree is a wonderful asset to have but having a specialty can be better. Some people who are versatile and can think on their feet do well with just a batchelor's degree. Those who don't do better with a special nitch. For example, a pharmacist, a nurse, an x-ray tech, or a dental hygienist, or respiratory therapist.
Do you have any talents (artist, etc)? In some industries
companies will train you making you more valuable. A good
place to consider is working for a bank. They have hundred of classes that you can take and grow in your career.
Best regards!

The kind of job where you ask, "Would you like fries with that?" :)

OK, seriously, you'll probably have to get your foot into the door of a company in some lower level position and then decide what you want to do. You can always take a couple of pertinent classes or get a certification if you find something that interests you. Teaching is usually the fallback job for general studies majors, so that's also an option.

Your best bet for a start is teaching. You could equally seek for management trainee job in any commercial organization. Banks are not even left out on this. Most organizations today recruit management trainees and build career charts for them.
