I like the word "taut" but very seldom hear it. I don't use it too often anymore, the first time I used it to my hubby, he didn;t know what I was talking about. He was upset working on something and I told him" I don"t think it is taut enough" He asked what I was taking about and told me to leave the garage that he had enough problems he didn't want to play dictionary with me. I used it once after that and he ask me not to use it say " I have never heard of such a word" . Told him to look it up in the dictionary and he never did. Told me to use "tight" This was about 40 yrs. ago and I will never forget it. Some times I laugh about it.

defenestration - the act of throwing someone out of a window. A very useful word.
onamatopea - describes words that sound like what they describe eg quack.
segue - to change the subject without pause
oligarchy - I don't know what it means I just like it
discombobulate - confuse
laissez faire - control without interfering
tmesis - add a bit in the middle of a word for emphasis - absa-ma-lutely !
absamalutely - only used by edumacated people.
I also like words that used to mean a bad thing but now mean a good thing, or vice versa eg sophisticated, used to be a bad thing.

Ehh it's not cool but it's my longest word that I know.
Antidisestablishmentarianism
It has 28 letters but not many people my age (14) know about it.
