I was never one for handwriting. I would sit at my computer and just type it out as it came to me. If you like to hand write, then of course, do what is comfortable for you. But, then I would put it away for a day or two before bringing it out again to re-write. A good paper is usually re-written (edited) 3 or 4 times. If it's something that is due the next day, try writing something early and then go back in the late afternoon or evening. Or write something out first, do the rest of your homework, then go back to it. See if this helps you.

I am going to assume you mean write an essay assignment, because if you are just talking about recording answers to problem that's pretty obvious. Anyway, when I sit down to write a paper I always start with a list. I just sit for a few minutes and jot down whatever comes to mind about the topic I am composing. Once I have written down everything I can think of I look for links. I don't really make a map or write a rough draft. I just connect the dots and then sit down at the computer and start making paragraphs out of of the images drawn from my list. Once I write as much as I can I go back and read it aloud. When doing this I can not only find grammatical and spelling errors but I can devise whether the chronology and flow of the paper is correct or if I should swap some paragraphs around. Honestly, I usually write my introduction and title last. The intro is basically telling the reader what they are about to learn, if I do this first and my ideas change halfway through the two don't match up. So I leave it for the end. Anyway, hope this helps!

Of course it depends on the assignment, but I'd suggest SPELLING "personal" correctly to start >. Next select a “theme” or “thesis” statement since it will guide what you will write about. I personally review the principles of theme and thesis writing frequently. Here are some ideas for you:
http://www.ci.maryville.tn.us/mhs/studyskills/compguide/guidelines.htm
http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/general/gl_thesis.html
http://www.dartmouth.edu/~writing/materials/student/thesis.shtml
After you know what your detailed theme or thesis statement is, the rest of your assignment will be much easier. Good LUCK.
