Well, what do you mean by decent hotel. if 5 stars hotel then i think you need about USD3000. Maybe that's without shopping. Just maybe 3 Days 2 nites at beach and good food at the hotel itself. Example if you stay in Magellan Sutera Habour Resort, Kota Kinabalu nice and cozy hotel. With beautiful sea view i think you have to spend more than that.
If you just want to have simple vacation with lots of saver then just stay with your own budget. I think USD1000 is just enough for 2 weeks vacations.

If u plan to spend 2weeks in an island not in the capital city, u prolly need bout 2000-3000rm.For a very basic chalet accomodation at an island.Last time, out friends took us to an island called "Redang Island" we spend about 600rm for 4days ( that includes flights with tax,air-con chalets,full board meals 3x a day - buffet style ,Snorkelling gear & trips out to sea on the boat to snorkel.U might wanna add a lil more if u plan to scuba dive like we did.They do give diving lessons if ure interested but prepare to fork out another 1500rm for that..least to get a PADI certificate.There are other hotels on that island too , but u wud need to google it up online.Have fun.

You need about USD 40 to 50 for 3 star hotel/ day. USD 10 - 20/day for 3 meal and USD 30 for extra expenses. i would say about USD 100/ per should be find.
2 week you need USD 1400.00 or about RM 5000.00 to enjoy a good holiday.

Maybe about RM2000. It should be enough. There are many stalls and restaurants that aren't expensive. If you wish to fly all over the country, Air Asia has fares starting from as low as RM1.90!* (Thats about USD0.50) one way!

frankly accomodation is abt 1000-1500rm already if u wan relatively gd(4-5stars)...foood is cheap. dependin on normal food or restaurant food.. if u wan a mix of cheap n expensive food ..set aside at least rm700-900..transport by cab set aside abt rm400-500...if u nd to travel interstate..transport will b more expensive
