i don't know, b/c i never understood this. When i was a kid my dad used to say i could see movies w/ "guts but no butts". Never made sense to me.

You are mistaken/misinformed. Sex is looked upon favorably in North America and violence is frowned upon. However, like anything else, there are factions in society which will always disagree with the norm. Perhaps this is where you got the idea that American's think sex is wrong and violence is okay. Your question is a very good one. Sex is generally good but there are aspects of it that are not healthy, such as unprotected sex with a stranger; and violence seems to get a lot of airplay in video games, tv and movies, but that does not mean it is okay. Expect a lot of people to talk about our Puritan past, or other another traditional argument. Personally, though, I think it springs from the common sense idea that you learn about sex as an adult, not as a small child. So PROTECTION of the sensitivities and sensibilities of the young is one very good reason.

I thought they were both wrong. Rappers seem to think they're both right. I guess we just need to look at the fruit of each and make our own rational decision instead of listening to the rappers.

Did not know this was the case. People are only arrested for sex when a crime is involved such as child molestation. Thousands of people are arrested for violent crimes. Perhaps you think rape is just a matter of sex? It is violent crime.

america is full of double standards, that is why! we are nation of hypocrites, and in fact, sexual violence is extremely prevelent in our society today! people seem to think it is cool to watch buildings being blown up, or people shot to death, but ger sensitive in regards to porno! go figure! a nation of hypocrites!

our puritinistic roots... sex is pleasurable, thus it is bad
violence is part of our heritage... we took this land over at the beginning... (but sex populated it).
the more 'taboo' we make things, the more likely that the younger generations will want to try it.
I presume that you refer to the media.. news, movies, tv and the sensanatilism (sp?) of it
