I have a 3 mg cable connection on my computer...it seems to be downloading and uploading very, very slow...a lot slower than a Dial Up Connection for some reason...been doing this for over a week now...the cable company is constantly trying to get me to upgrade to a 5 mg connection which I don't want to do since I don't seem to be getting my money's worth on the 3 mg connection...our computer has been checked and it is the cable connection for some reason...what could be wrong and why so slow...cable company slowing 3 mg connection down so customers will buy the 5 mg connection?...We cannot get DSL where we live since they say we are to far out and it doesn't extend this far...we don't live in the country...just a few miles outside the city...

When was the last time you cleaned up your system. Because you are connected to cable you are downloading much and more info. Cable leaves more traces that are not always detectable over Dial Up.

Also check your system setups. You may be connecting at lower speeds because of your previous dial up connection that were never changed. It would depend more on the type of system your using. I had to manually go in and change my radio downloads as well as video.

If you have tried everything and still nothing runs faster, I would suggest a Directory Booster that speeds up your cable router as well as you Directory Registry. Then add more memory. That should work.

they told u that u cant get dsl???what a joke, dsl runs off the phone line, goes to the headend, then to a satelite.there is no reason you cant get it..Before you go postal on the cable provider u need to make sure that your pc is running like it should.as mentioned when u are on cable there is a lot of junk that comes with your downloads and will slow you down.Clean out your browser with the delete files tab, defrag your system, and if you don't have a registry cleaner i would deffenitly get one.reg vac is a very good, and easy one to use.you can set it up to run aotomaticly and is cheep.
Then if your getting a slow up or downstream contact your isp and tell them to renew your ip.If u are still haveing problems then have a tech come out and check your lines.Remember that it's a free service for them to check the lines from the pole to your house, but after that they will charge u a service call fee.Usually 50 bucks but that is not including any cable line costs or spliters if u need one. The signal to noise ratio can run hot +125dbs and not affect your connection, but if they test and see it's that hot then they will place a device in your line to correct the problem.
Make sure u check your ethernet cable going to your pc,if it even looks like something is not rite replace it,and reboot the cable router....good luck....be nice to the isp and they will come sooner....Cisco network profesional

Your cable company should come out and test the lines and upgrade them if needed. That's what they did to my place, they completely rewired the entire house. Also, make sure that the Modem is fed by it's very own line and that it's not split anywhere.

if it is not spyware/malware/viral traffic, then the cable node is overloaded..OR the cable company is throttling you down...

cable broadband hubs can get overwhelmed if too many people are using the service..

chances are they are oversubscribed. You could also have an RF problem too..IE..the signal-to-noise ratio on the line is such that it cannot support high speed..

Somebody may have uncapped their cable modem. A neighbor in my area did that, and it brought our speeds down to almost nothing. When somebody uncaps the modem, it steals most of the available bandwidth, therefore you are left with barely anything.

You are going to need to give us more details.

What are you doing when it downloads and uploads? What programs?

When did it start doing this? Who is your internet provider? Are you running it through a router?

Details help us answer your question.
