I have a terrible fear of BOTH of the ones you mentioned. I had surgery once and they stopped my breathing before I was out and I remember thinking later that had to be what it feels like to drown - not being able to breathe. And, after I saw the devastation a fire can cause when it burned our house completely through the floors, fire became a fear as well.

I think the scariest way to die is at the hands of the state if you're being executed. I think it was ingenious of our Creator to make us so that we have no idea when we're going to die. But the state robs felons convicted of capital offenses of that, telling them exactly when and how they're going to die, and doing irreparable damage to their psyche by having them anticipate it for years on end, and not knowing at all how to meet their final moments.

It's for this, and many other reasons, that I stand opposed to the death penalty.

Drowning is actually suppose to be fairly painless, honest. I would have to say burning or being trapped with little air and suffocating.
