To become and remain a good physician requires a significant but limited amount of initial and continuing education. But to do serious scientific research is itself a continuous process of education. I would have to answer no.

I've yet to meet a doctor that knew the first thing about anything. They certainly have never helped myself or anyone I know with a single health problem... EVER. I know of no other profession where you can get away with being literally obsolete for so long and still get paid a huge salary. But such is the world we live in. I'm talking GPs here; I'm sure that surgeons and other health workers do fine jobs, but the guys you initially see for a diagnosis are worthless.
Addendum:
I'm guessing it was a good for nothing doctor that gave me the thumb down? Stop wasting time here on Y/A and see if you can do your job for once!

Not likely. Doctors only know about what they specialize in. They are not necessarily educated or smart about others areas, and may not even be a very smart or knowledgeable doctor. Doctors don't know anything about nutrition, and are only required to take one semester of it in med school? So, they can't treat the body homeopathic if they have no knowledge of the body and food, can they? There is no answer to this question. Why even try?

no. They are very educated in their area of expertise and are very smart, but I think that research physicists are probably some of teh most well educated people that I have met.

oh , why did you come to this conclusion ?! :-?
I don`t think so ..
I think it is not related to what you study and then say that you are more educated !
but to some extend i can agree with you if we suppose that they should know many different things about a subject and then come to a conclusion ... ( My explanation was too bad :D , did you understand what i meant ?! )

I don't think so.
I actually think certain engineers are more educated.
Think of the people who put together an entire automobile, or a tiny cellphone, or a space shuttle etc.
