Thanks, everyone, for letting me know what you think! (Note to some: I didn't ask what qualifies them to have an opinion. Everyone has opinions but not everyone feels that they are qualified to run the world.

With respect to the few people above me, this is not the same situation as Ronald Reagan running for and winning the Presidency in one of the biggest landslides ever.
The question thats been asked has nothing to do with that.

I challenge Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn et al, to run for office and then, if they were elected, I'd maybe listen to them.
Obviously the American people agreed with what Reagan had to say at the time.
What is actually happening is these celebrities, with their public high school educations, are using their celebrity status and face time in front of the cameras to hop on their soapbox and use it as their own personal forum to sling political arrows all over the place.
They get their info from the watching the CBS/NBC/ABC/CNN evening news like the rest of America.
They aren't being brought into the White House and being briefed on whats happening, so how do they know?
Yes I agree that they have an opinion and are allowed to have one, just like every other American, but when Joe Martin, the sewer worker, gets face time in front of the cameras to state HIS opinion, I'll be happy. Until then, celeb opinions are like A Holes, everyones got one and ones no better than another.
Thats the problem with American culture these days...we equate being famous with being smart/informed...and thats just not true at all. (see: Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, etc)

Well, after seeing how pitifully stupid the Democrat congresscritters are, who wouldn't think they've the intelligence to be a Democrat congressman?

They look at Kerry, who didn't even show up for the year he ran for president, but who could be found windsurfing, skiing, etc and they say, who couldn't do that? Just not show up, and when you do show up, don't do anything, don't sponsor any bills, give a few speeches, etc.

They see that as a Democrat, having any knowledge is actually a detriment. If you know the Constitution, you would have to recognize the limits on government and the unConstitutional nature of most of the Democratic legislative platform. If you know economics, you would recognize the juvenile class-warfare stupidity of the Democratic economic policies. If you have a deep knowledge of history and are current on the state of the world, you'd realize how myopic and partisan the Dem foreign policy is.

So, since all you have to do is hate Bush and his war, and denounce the GOP as Nazis, why wouldn't any liberal think they could do just as well as the Dem stiffs currently on Capitol Hill?

Aboslutely nothing. Unfortunately, we live in a world where Britney Spears is big news, Anna Nicoles death covered every news station in the country DURING WARTIME and people care more about who's dating who than what's going on in the world. So now, we have these people...most of whom are uneducated...trying to teach the world how to be moral in between gangbangs and rails of cocaine. I'm pretty sure the only reason any of these people are in power is because A) some of them are pretty, B) they made a career out of being someone else, aka "acting", and C) because they make more money, they're obviously smarter.

They are Americans, and ALL Americans have the right to be politically active. What makes Rush Limbaugh feel qualified to be active, politically? He's no less an entertainer than any of the Hollywood crowd.

They're just as qualified to be politically active as any other Jack or Jane on the street. The nice thing about this country is that we are allowed to fight for what we believe in, no matter who we are!

They aren't "qualified." It's the simple fact that so many people follow their lives religiously that they feel they can say whatever they want and people will listen and believe. It's a sad truth.

Basically they are using the fact that people blindly follow them to push their own personal agendas.

And yes, ALL Americans have the right to give their opinion. But you CANNOT compare the publicity given to people like Alec Baldwin and other Hollywood types to the publicity that Rush gets. That is just ridiculous.

What qualifies a republican actor to run a state. Some things we will never know.

I chalk it up to it's a free country. Everybody is qualified to have an opinion.

As citizens, don't they have that right? Just the same as Charlton Heston and other conservative entertainers, they also have the right to speak their mind.
You can choose to listen or to ignore - it's just like you can CHOOSE to turn on or turn off the TV.
Isn't freedom great?

What makes you feel qualified to ask? Freedom of expression pal. Sean Hannity expresses himself on a nightly basis, he's not elected to any office or appointed to any office. Does it bother you when Toby Keith or Dennis Miller speaks out on behalf of conservative issues? They have just as much a right to speak as you have to ignore them.

What makes anyone feel qualified to be active, politically ? Your surely not saying because they are entertainers that they shouldn't be active politically, are you ? Well sense your a conservative, you probably are dumb enough. Never mind.
