What setup was Fripp using on Bowie's Scary Monsters album? Particularly the sound apparent at the end of "It's No Game".

It's a Fripp question so I'll try to answer as good as I can. First of, I think is Les Paul that he used, then he probably got very much of the room sound it was recorded in to sound like that (Mics, distance, mics on the roof, etc). Then you have to add the mode of his playing (scales, notes, etc) that increase the "freak sound". Then it could be a mixing trick as well. He often times used a small amp right next to him (apart from others that were used for recording the actual sound) as a source for feedback for those infinitely long sustained slides.
