I would "hope" they would be. However many people are afraid to hurt your feelings, yet they want to assure you, support you, be there for you--- so, they extend sympathy or feigned understanding. Their truthfulness could have been just the impetuous you needed to keep you from making a decision that is so out of character for you that the consequences and pain derived from it hurt you more than all the "implied" ramifications of not "doing the right thing" ever could have caused!! Strength that endures in family and friends requires truth. The truth may hurt but it allows us to asses our situation with a clear view of the playing field; because family and friends sometimes see us more clearly than we ourselves can perceive when in a bad situation and asking for input. Jumping to drastic decision that is out of character for you, and doing it because "the world" sees it as best, may not be "your best". Truth will help you accept who you are and how you feel and thus what, when weighed is best for you. Tell the truth!!

No, Lie to me, Lie to me.
Treat me like one of those guys on Dateline NBC.
Tell me you love me, and secretly be putting pins in my voodoo doll.
The best thing of knowing that you could be telling me a complete mess of lies is the reality that you are that creative.
So, No, I do not expect everyone to be honest with me but I try and be honest with them.
Of course I could be lying.
Oh yeah, family and friend who may be reading this some day, lie to me at your own loss. The less I can trust you the less I can testify in your behalf.

Absolutely not. I expect them to tell me what they think I want to hear. Unless I specifically ask them to be honest and objective, and even then...
My wife, on the other hand, is what you might call "brutally honest." And somehow I love her anyway.

No, but it would be nice if they were though. I'm not sure if anyone really knows how to be truthful anymore.
