when you cut a cell of a living thing, the protoplasm(cytoplasm + nucleus) seeps out and it ceases to remain protoplasm as soon as it is removed from the cell.
Naturally the cell dies so does the protoplasm.

You get two half-cells. Once you break the integrity of the cell membrane the cell can no longer continue to function properly. Exception, using micropipettes to either sample or introduce an object into the cell.
