surrender? that makes no sense. Try pull out. I'm a dem, but i think we need to stay awhile longer to get Iraq more stable. I didn't want this mess, but we will be left to clean it up. They need to do a better job of establishing the new goverment there.

The same thing that happened in Vietnam. American service personnel will stop being killed and the region will resume its way of life. That way of life will gradually change as the citizens of the region realize they live in a global community and anti social behavior has a personal negative financial consequence to everyone who lives there. In other words, over time, the mid east would integrate itself into the world community, just as Vietnam has done.

The conservatives during Vietnam said we have to beat the enemy in SE Asia or we will be fighting them in America. Sound familiar?

The fact is somewhere between 5-15 American kids will die in Iraq this week. These kids are heroes, every last one of them. My question is this: can you tell me what they are dying for?

We can't surrender we are not really at "war" with Iraq. We should be pleading to the international community that we screwed up and really need every ones help for the good of the entire world. We must learn to drop our pride sometimes, it tends to cause poor decisions.

Nothing to surrender to. We're not fighting an organized army. We're fighting a concept. A concept cannot declare victory. And nothing would happen to the U.S., except a lot of us would get our loved ones back home instead of having to worry about them being killed by some suicide bomber.

Absolutely certain: Al Quaida would proclaim victory.
Also absolutely certain: Lots of people (especially in the ME) would believe they won.

Situation in Iraq: Less certain. But lets try:
The current government is still too weak to run the country. Add to that new enthousiasm for Al Quaida, and the radicals might overrun the country, or overrun part of the country and convince the central government to leave them alone.
This last thing has happenen in Pakistan, btw.

This would mean Al Quaida had a base again where they could safely establish training camps and bring in new followers.
Don't dream they'll be content with one victory.
They're not done untill the world is under radical islamic rule.
And you've just given them a basis of operations again.

Iraq would become a terrroist training ground for attacks on the US. The sectarian would expand beyond the borders of Iraq. The clout it would give Al Queda would be enormous because they had made the US run away in defeat, just like Bin Laden said we would. He has the liberals in the US figured out.

Nothing would happen to us. Bush would look like an even bigger idiot, and that's why he won't leave. In Iraq, a new dictator would take over because the Iraqi military and "government officials" are worthless and pathetic.

Extremists will feel certian that their terrorists tactics worked in defeating even the "strongest country in the world" and that bodes very ill for the entire western world.
