Would you slowly pull away from them until it wasn't worth staying together, a clean break, try "it's not you, it's me"? What would you do?

I'm not sure. I guess just slowly pull away from them because if you just come and say, hey i have something to tell you. I dont think i love you anymore. I just dont think that is a very brave thing to do. I hope things work out for ya. Good luck.

I've been in this position, so I will speak from what I did.
I called and said we needed to talk about where things were and where we were headed. I told him that although we get along okay, there was a big part missing and it was something I just could no longer ignore. I explained to him that something in me had changed and that my feelings were no longer what they once were. He shared with me his feelings and we eventually ended out talk. He said he appreciated me being open and telling him.
Be careful not to let this linger. Be open, honest and kind. He will be able to move on. If he asks what brough on these feelings, be honest.

tell them your feelings have changed.. u care about them but not in love with them.. we have good memories but thats al-- I Dont see myself with you in the future.. we don't get a long anymore we are no longer compatible.. just find other things to pre occupy u stop going out with them and calling them back

NEVER SAY "It's not you, it's me". It just convinces the person that it IS them.
Talk to them about it. Tell them that you have enjoyed the time that you have spent together and you need to pursue other paths.
