How about a "don't ask, don't tell" policy for everything. If you're married, you're prohibited from saying so. If you're Christian, you're prohibited from this being known.

And then, the first time you say "the wife and I went to church on Sunday," you can be fired. Perhaps even prosecuted as some have suggested for homosexuals.

Makes sense and seems fair, right?

No. What you're asking is for these people to go back into the closet. Don't ask is fine, but don't tell, means that anyone speaking of their personal life is up for disciplinary measures.

How would you like it if at work you were not allowed to speak even to a close friend about your personal life?

We really do. It is illegal for an employer to ask about your sexuality. The don't tell part is always up to an individual.

Also it isn't fair to condemn homosexual people for discussing their relationships, on one hand, and condone heterosexual discussions of relationships, on the other.

Maybe we could just lock you away so you never have to see anyone different from yourself? Wouldn't that solve YOUR problem and save us the hassle form having to hear you whine all the time?

I would be happy if we just had a "don't ask don't tell " policy for TV shows and movies.
